It’s common that drivers do not know that car battery in fact is one of the most important part of a vehicle. The car battery is one of the key members of your vehicle where it does its job regardless of any condition. As the turn of your ignition starts the engine of your vehicle,a car battery life expectancy does not last forever.  Nowadays, the all common maintenance-free lead-acid car batteries does not give any warning or signs that the battery might not work soon, they always end up failing at the most inconvenient time.

Very few people know that the biggest enemy for the deterioration of the car battery is the heat. Malaysia that has the tropical weather has some hot days that will take a big toll on its performance and reserve capacity. Service centers and workshop mechanics will tend to advise us to check our battery in a span of 2 years and that includes new cars as well. With that being said, experts agree that car battery life depends on the quality of the battery, but it normally ranges from 2-3 years.

There are many theories as of how to prolong the life of your car battery but it there are so many factors to consider that will make your effort futile. One of it is the use of electronic devices that includes your stereo, air conditioner, GPS, headlights and many more that will deplete your battery’s charge. The other factor is temperature, as battery works in the optimum level of temperature of 18-32 Celsius. Heat in Malaysia is on an average of 32-36 Celsius on a hot day and in your car engine bay, the temperature is significantly higher that can lead to a significant reduction in the battery use cycle.

This factor might sound absurd but your driving habits actually have a significant impact on your battery’s lifespan.Making short trips to the mall or stores might have a harmful effect to your car’s battery. This is because the short distance of the drive might not be able to charge your battery in time and every time you crank to start your car,you are actually using a lot of charge from the battery. This will significantly reduce the lifespan of your car’s battery.

Getting your car battery checked every time you service your car is the best way to prevent you from being stranded because of a failed car battery.
